Approval of Minutes for June 19, 2019, meeting. Motion by Lance Radziej, second by Jeanne Hilpisch, passed.
Karl welcomed Bernadette Christiansen, new Board member, and Sarah Haroon, Maggie Dayton's guest, then introduced Nate Ansari, the new Fundraising and Events Associate and Rebeca Hulme, recently promoted to Fellowship and Adult Ed. Associate.
McKnight Artist Fellowships for Fiber Artists - Karl Reichert & Rebeca Hulme
Karl and Rebeca offered an update on the new McKnight Fellowship program, applications for which are now being solicited. The program comes with $125K annual award from the McKnight Foundation; $25k for each mid-career Fellow, and $75k in operating support for the program. There was a well-attended informational session 9/16/19 at the Textile Center, which will be posted on-line. Tracy Krumm will lead additional sessions statewide.
25th Anniversary Gala - Linda McShannock & Lisa Steinmann, co-chairs
Linda and Lisa provided an update on the 25th Anniversary Gala, October 21, 2019:
Finance Committee - Jeanne Hilpisch
Treasure & Finance Chair Jeanne Hilpisch reported generally good news. We are ahead of most budget targets, and where we are not (due to the shortfall from the Garage Sale, for example) we have events upcoming (Gala, Garage Sale Pop Up) that stand to make up those shortfalls.
Facilities Committee - Dick Gilyard
The Facilities Committee update was made by Dick Gilyard. Most notably, after developing key criteria, a matrix for apples-to-apples evaluation of different Textile Center expansion possibilities has been developed. The committee also met with The Khan family; it seems unlikely they are our partner on our path forward. It was strongly advocated both that TC hire a consultant to assist in assessing possibilities, and that we “shoot for the moon.” Additionally, some near-term facility improvements (security upgrade, which is complete, and Auditorium flooring) are underway.
Fund Development Committee - Mariana Shulstad and Karl Reichert
The Fall Appeal is being launched with a joint letter in September signed by Ella and Karl to previous funders. The bulk mail letter will go out in October from fiber artist and teaching artist Ceci Lewis by bulk mail to a list of nearly 3,000 in October.
Staff is also working to secure $30,000 in new corporate and foundation grants before the end of the FY20 fiscal year.
Staff Updates - Nancy Gross
Board Retreat: 9 am to 1 pm Saturday, November 9, 2019
A Board retreat (hosted by Ella Ramsey at her home in Golden Valley) has been proposed 9 am to 1 pm Saturday, November 9, 2019 in lieu of a November Board Meeting. The strategic future of Textile Center will be the focus of the retreat.
