Meeting of the Board of Directors
Wednesday, June 19, 2019 - Textile Center Auditorium
Attendance:
Board: Larry McIntyre, Anupama Pasricha, Mariana Shulstad, Carol Mashuga, Richard Gilyard, Ella Ramsey, Jeanne Hilpisch, Jeff White, Linda McShannock, Curt Pederson, and Lisa Steinmann (Absent: Maggie Dayton, John Cairns, Mary Ann Schmidt, Cyndi Kaye Meier, Lance Radziej, Maggie Thompson, Amelia Allen, and Bernadette Christiansen)
Staff: Nancy Gross, Jayne Usery, and Karl Reichert
Tonight's board meeting was preceded by the FY19 Textile Center Annual Meeting, which took place from 4:30 to 6 pm.
President Ella Ramsey called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm.
Approval of Meeting Agenda. Motion by Carol Mashuga, second by Larry McIntyre, passed.
Approval of Minutes for May 15, 2019, meeting. Motion by Curt Pederson, second by Jeff White, passed.
International Touring - Highlights from Morocco - Karl Reichert
Finance Committee - Jeanne Hilpisch
Fund Development Committee - Mariana Shulstad and Karl Reichert
Grants Update:
A Leadership Circle newsletter was sent on June 6, and the distribution list included the full board.
25th Anniversary Gala - Linda McShannock
The Steering committee is meeting every two weeks. The event will be at the Profile Center, University Avenue, on October 21, 6 to 9 pm. It will feature a fashion show organized by Michelle Mayama, hors d’oeuvres, awards program, valet parking, music and AV presentation. Under discussion: ticket price, sponsorships. Tickets (276 seats) to go on sale soon.
Ella asked board members, “If you have the means, buy a table and give away the tickets.”

International Touring - Highlights from Morocco - Karl Reichert
- Karl reported a very successful trip.
- Mariana announced that the Japan trip in Sept. is sold out
- The tour to India in January has sold 10/15 spots
- Santa Fe trip in July coming up
Finance Committee - Jeanne Hilpisch
- Review of May 2019 Financials
- Jeanne reported that there is 2—3 months cash on hand
- Adjustments in accounting/reporting must be made for 3-year McKnight Grant
- Looking for ways to make up money projected but not earned from the Garage Sale: $30,000
- The recent audit: Jayne reported that this “went well”
- Jayne’s work was praised (Karl)
Fund Development Committee - Mariana Shulstad and Karl Reichert
Grants Update:
- Textile Center has received a three year McKnight Grant for mid-career artist fellowships.
- Good Family providing $20,000 (fifth year in a row) great supporters
- Boss Foundation grant renewed
- Prospect Park Legacy Fund: $1,000 given to support this year’s community project event “Go banana for bandanas” (shibori dying)
- Target: TC asked for $12,000 and received that.

Facilities Committee - Dick Gilyard and Karl Reichert
- Has not met because committee members have been out of town.
- Currently, conversations between Karl and Dick include looking at costs of new construction as basis for next facilities meeting. It will be important to determine core programming for future. Decisions will be based on envisioning next 10—15 years. Parking issue important.
Staff Updates - Nancy Gross
- McKnight grant has supported hire of Rebecca Hulme FT.
- Three new shop staff: Sarah Peterson, Debbie Johnson and Shannon Flaherty.
- Possibly looking at hiring an assistant in education.
- Tracy has Concordia College students assisting with exhibits
- Lifan Wang from Kobe Japan is the retail Merchandising Intern this summer
- Interviewing fund development manager
- Abdi, teen intern working with Nanci Mambi in library this summer
Final Remarks
- Karl: A group from Duluth asked about creating a Textile Center North? At this point we are just exploring the idea, and planning to visit this group in July.
- Carol: believes that TC needs to think longer term than 5 years in strategic planning.
